People from different social groups in the Global Day of Action gathering on 25th September in front of Noakhali Independence Memorials demanded to take action for tackling growing inequality to reach the targets of SDGs in Bangladesh. The assembly organized by Global Call to Action Against Poverty – GCAP coalition members attended by NRDS, Bandhan, Gandhi Ashram Trust, PRAN and the local development workers, activists and journalists, demanded for the plan to integrate SDGs from local to national level planning.
Abdul Awal the National Coordinator GCAP Bangladesh and Nurul Alam Masud the Chief Executive of PRAN spoke on the occasion. The speakers highlighted the demands of equality for all, elimination of discrimination, quality education for all, protection of human rights, gender equality and environmental protection for the purpose of implementing sustainable development goals.
Apart from this, the recommendations were made to the government to ensure that nobody in the society is left behind and marginalized population are included in the development process. In order to ensure the implementation of Agenda 2030, the government should play stronger role in considering peoples priorities in policy making, allocating financial resources for education, health and social protection in implementation of SDGs goals. Popular cultural actions also part of programs including the human chain and rally.
