NRDS launched a new project for Strengthening Active Citizenship for Well-governed Local Institution in Noakhali on February 4th, 2020. Deputy Commissioner, Noakhali Mr. Tanmoy Das as chief guest of the inception meeting of the project, welcomed the initiative to strengthen citizens role in local governance that will contribute improve accountability of the local government services in the area. The project will be implemented with the technical support of the Asia Foundation and the financial assistance of UK Aid, Bangladesh.
Among others the dignitaries the Chairman, Subornachar Upazilla Parishod and the President of the Noakhali District Awami League, Mr. Khairul Anam Chowdhury Selim, Mr. Omar Farooq Badsha, the Chairman of Begumganj Upazila Parishad, Dr. Mominur Rahman, Civil Surgeon, Noakhali, and Deepak J. Khisa, Additional SP, Noakhali were present as special guests, where Executive Director of NRDS, Abdul Awal presided over the meeting.
Nure Alam Siddiqui of NRDS presented the keynote paper where Mostafa Kamal, Chairman of Begumganj Union; Nur Alam Chowdhury Parvez, President of JSD; Media personality Mr. Abu Naser Monju, Citizens rights activist Mr. Sirajur Nur Kochi and Mrs. Laiala Parvin spoken at the meeting.
The Chief Guest Mr. Tanmoy Das DC Noakhali, in his deliberation requested all concerned specially the local government bodies to provide cooperation to the project and express his expectation that it will result long term impact and sustainable citizen engagement in the process. Speaking as the special guest, Dr. Md. Mominur Rahman requested the people’s representatives of the Union Parishad to regularly monitor the grassroots health services to improve the quality of health services in the community. The citizen activists, local government representatives, representatives of various local political parties, teachers, representatives of citizen support groups, development activists, local government service providers delivered their speech-giving importance on project objective and expressed their wholehearted support in the implementation process of the project.
