Global Week of Action Kicks Off in Bangladesh: Strong Mobilization in Noakhali Calls for Debt Justice, Fair Taxation, and Social Protection

Noakhali, Bangladesh – 13 October 2025:

The Global Week of Action (GWA) began today in Bangladesh with a powerful mobilization in Noakhali, jointly organized by SDG Action Alliance, the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP), and NRDS. The nationwide campaign, which runs until 19 October, aims to amplify the voices of marginalized communities and demand urgent action for social and economic justice.

The inaugural event took the form of a People’s Assembly at the NRDS Center in Noakhali, bringing together hundreds of farmers’ leaders, women activists, and community representatives. The atmosphere was vibrant and resolute as participants shared their experiences and demands amid deepening economic and climate crises.

Speakers and participants voiced grave concern over rising inequality, worsening living conditions, and the systemic deprivation affecting low-income populations. They emphasized that without decisive reforms, millions will remain trapped in cycles of poverty and exclusion.

The Assembly issued three urgent calls to action:

  • Debt cancellation to ease the crushing financial burden on low-income nations and communities;

  • Reform of national and global tax systems to promote equity, transparency, and accountability;

  • Increased public investment in essential services such as health, education, and social protection.

The Noakhali event marks the beginning of a series of coordinated mobilizations across Bangladesh as part of the Global Week of Action 2025, under the shared slogan “Act for Equality, Justice, and Sustainability.”
